I can't believe we only have 11 days left till Christmas! The rain that has been pouring down on Los Angeles lifted up enough for the fella and I to purchase our Christmas Tree!
I literally can't believe it's Christmas time already. I feel like the whole year went by in a blink of an eye.
It's time to talk Christmas Dresses!
For hundreds of years, women have used the formal dress, what we now
call the party dress, as a form of expression. The right dress could
launch a lady into high society and flaunt her beauty. From the glamorous Hollywood gowns of the 40’s to the poodle skirt of
the 50’s to the miniskirts of the 60’s to hippy-chic maxi dresses of the
70’s to the structured dresses of the 80’s to the baby doll dresses of
the 90’s… The party dress has evolved faster than ever before in past
100 years. With each new generation of women, a new party dress is
born- ready to dazzle, ready to entice, and ready to reveal something
special about the wearer.
I have been buying vintage patterns left and right on Etsy and Ebay. Finally, one has emerged as the front runner for my holiday dress!
At first I wanted to make it in Emerald Green Taffeta, which would require a trip to Los Angele's Fabric District. You can easily find it for 3.00 a yard. It's a drop in the bucket compared to Joann's -- which can cost upwards of 15.00 a yard. I planned on going yesterday - but because of the torrential
downpour, I decided to go with overpriced Joann's. Better than oversized rats
and roaches that come out in downtown Los Angeles when it is wet. I was unable to find the Taffeta in the right weight (just cheapy stuff that would look terrible with a petticoat under it). So, I decided to put my snow princess tiara on and purchase this AMAZING white/silver brocade satin. It's so heavy, and it was 40% OFF! I will be doing the belt and accent neckline in dark green velvet!
I already own a pair of emerald green vintage Coro earrings. I also purchased a lovely vintage emerald green snowflake brooch to go with my ensemble.
What shoes am I going to wear? Better yet, what are you wearing?
